MK Children's Trust Gets Go-ahead

10.55.00pm GMT Fri 15th Feb 2008

A new organisation tasked with bringing together key agencies that have responsibility for children's services is set to be established in the city from 1 April 2008.

The Milton Keynes Children's Trust will act as a "champion for children, young people and families" by engaging partner organisations and local communities to ensure that every child and young person has the best start in life and access to appropriate support and services.

Children's services are provided by a network of organisations, including schools, the NHS, the Council, and other statutory and voluntary sector organisations. The Children's Trust will align planning and use of resources to maximise value for money and ensure effective service delivery.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Sandra Clark, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "I am delighted with the establishment of this Trust, which will ensure that children, young people and their families receive integrated support to enable them to reach their full potential."

The Children Act 2004 requires local authorities and their partner agencies to co-operate in the planning and delivery of children's services. The MK Children's Trust will strengthen existing partnership working.

The Trust will set the strategic direction for services for children, young people and families in Milton Keynes. It will strive to help children to stay safe and healthy, to enjoy their childhood, to achieve at school, and to contribute positively to their community.
