The Council has welcomed the latest report by the national Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) into its adult social services, which provide a vital lifeline for older people. The service was rated 'excellent' on its work in improving health and emotional well-being, as well as on helping to keep people free from discrimination or harassment. . In the remaining categories, the Council was found to be good in helping people in: • improved quality of life • maintaining personal dignity and respect • making a positive contribution • increased choice and control • economic well-being. Liberal Democrat Councillor Irene Henderson, cabinet member responsible for older people and adult social care, said: "I am very pleased that this report recognises the hard work that has gone into improving the service which helps some of the most vulnerable people in our community. We have improved over last year's rating, despite the fast that CSCI have made the criteria even tougher this year." Innovations have included: • telecare and telemedicine • the new Extracare village • increased daytime opportunities for people with learning disabilities • user involvement in mental health services • strong collaboration with Milton Keynes Primary Care Trust.
