Become a Womble for the day by learning how to make crafts and gifts for Christmas from recycled and reusable waste materials.

This is the call to residents of all ages to spend a morning finding out how waste is recycled and how you can put everyday items that folk leave behind to good use. The recycling event is to be held on Saturday 8 December from 10 am until 1 pm and will include a short tour of the Materials Recycling Facility at Wolverton. The craft activities will be seasonal and some will celebrate different religious festivals from around the world.

Liberal Democrat councillor Douglas McCall, cabinet member responsible for the environment, said: "The Council believes education is the right way to convince people to recycle more and more of their waste. Residents need to understand that it costs them financially if they don't recycle. Every time you put something in your refuse sack you are effectively throwing away your money - putting rubbish in holes in the ground is a waste of money, costing each household in Milton Keynes £25 a year in landfill tax alone! The Government will increase this to about £33 from April next year."
