The Transformation of Water Hall Primary School Gets Going

11.12.28pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 18th Jun 2007

The transformation of Water Hall Primary school in Bletchley is well underway, with half of the site being cleared ready for the building work of the new school, which will begin in early July. The new school will accommodate 315 primary pupils and a 26-place nursery. Extensive consultation with the local community informed the design of the school, which will be a courtyard style.

This is the first school that Milton Keynes Council has built which has included an attached nursery. The school will also have its own kitchen to provide school meals, both for pupils at Water Hall and for neighbouring schools.

Pupils have moved into one half of the school and a tailored temporary unit has been erected to accommodate the current foundation unit. The new-build works will take just over a year to complete and are scheduled for handover in July 2008 ready for pupils to move into the new school in September 2008.

Liberal Democrat councillor Sandra Clark, cabinet member with responsibility for children and young people said: "This new school building will herald a new beginning for Water Hall and I am pleased that the children will have access to the best possible facilities. We are committed to providing the best possible education for the children of Bletchley and we believe that this new school will be very important to the community."

Head teacher Tony Draper added: "After a lot of consultation with the local community, we feel confident that the new school will improve the lives of local children and families. We will be offering a lot of extra facilities which I am sure will be a welcome addition to this community."
