Theatre Car Park Ramps to be Widened at Last

2.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 12th May 2007

Milton Keynes Council has started work on improvements to widen the vehicle access ramps in the theatre multi-storey car park to make them more user-friendly.

Liberal Democrat councillor Euan Henderson, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "It was always planned that the car park ramps should be modified once the issue of the original design had been resolved. The money for the work has come from a long-awaited insurance settlement by the original designers, so council taxpayers will not be footing the bill.

"When the work is completed, the multi-storey car park will be a better and easier place to park, with no loss of spaces as a result of the modifications."

The work is expected to take 20 weeks, during which time it will be necessary for the car park to be closed to the public for safety reasons. The car park will be re-opened in mid-September.

The £268,000 make-over will involve partially demolishing the 20 vehicle ramps, installing additional new supporting steelwork and then widening all the ramps with reinforced concrete. A contract has been awarded to Balvac Ltd to provide a design-and-build solution for the improvements.
