Staff, students and governors at Walton High are celebrating the first blocks of their new Sixth Form Centre being laid. The £2.1 million project will be completed in July 2007 and will provide excellent additional facilities for 16-19 year-olds.

Post-16 students will benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, which will include six flexible teaching spaces, an independent study area, common room and enhanced provision for Information and Communications Technology. Kingerlee are the contractors and David Grindley Robert De Grey are the architects.

Commenting on the new facilities, Principal Michelle Currie said: "These new facilities are very welcome. Walton High will now be able to offer a wider range of courses to post-16 students at both advanced and intermediate level. Students will benefit from excellent independent study facilities which will help them succeed in their courses."

Councillor Sandra Clark, Liberal Democrat cabinet member with responsibility for children and young people, added: "The Council tracks growth across the city in order to ensure that suitable school accommodation is available when and where it's needed. This will be an excellent addition to an already successful school."
