New Improved Door-To-Door Transport Service for Older and Disabled People12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 23rd Jun 2006 Older people, people with disabilities and other vulnerable bus users can now enjoy a new, improved specialised bus service from next week. 22nd June saw the launch of MK PlusBus, using high specification minibuses, which people can book in advance, to replace the old Fastchair and MK Special services. The changes follow a review and extensive consultation with users. The new service will improve the quality and number of trips. MK PlusBus is operated on behalf of the Council by Milton Keynes Community Transport, a new company set up by Age Concern Milton Keynes and Ealing Community Transport, who have won the tenders to provide the new service. All users of the previous services have been contacted by the Council's Community Transport team and have been asked to register for the new MK PlusBus service. It's free to register with the new service, and fares on MK PlusBus will be very reasonable, at £1 for a single journey and £1.30 for a return. Councillor Chris Williams, Liberal Democrat cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said: "This will be an improved service for our clients, many of whom are among the most vulnerable people in society." Passengers can book trips on the new service by telephoning 01908 266950.
