Cabinet Endorses Route for MK to Bedford Waterway

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 19th Oct 2005

Milton Keynes Council's Liberal Democrat cabinet has safeguarded a route though the Broughton Brook linear park for the proposed canal link from Milton Keynes to Bedford.

The cabinet has also endorsed the development framework for the Eastern Expansion Area of the city, which maps out where houses, schools, roads, etc. will be built in that area, including a number of minor changes in response to the public consultation. The framework has now been adopted, which means that all future planning applications within the area will have to comply with it.

Councillor Graham Mabbutt, cabinet member responsible for transport and planning, said: "We have listened to the views of all stakeholders and secured a route for the canal. Now we have to find ways of raising the funds to construct the waterway connecting the Grand Union Canal to the River Ouse."
