Purple and Green Help to Make Car Parking Seen

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 16th Oct 2005

The coloured surface painting and signing of car parking zones is to be extended to other areas in the city centre. Since its implementation between Saxon Gate and Marlborough Street in July 2004, the number of parking tickets issued has reduced and income from fines dropped. This is good news for car parkers who have said that they have found it much easier to locate the lower tariff and free parking zones in the city centre.

"Shoppers and visitors to Milton Keynes have told us how much easier it is to understand the parking zones since they have been colour coded," said Liberal Democrat Councillor Graham Mabbutt, cabinet member for transport and highways. "I am pleased that we can extend this scheme to the whole of the city centre."

Red zones carry a premium parking rate of £1 per hour, purple zones 25p per hour and green zones are free.
