Liberal Democrat Council celebrates the success of adult learners12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 6th Jul 2005 Ten adult learners, from the ages of 18 to 88, are to receive awards for their exceptional commitment to learning. There were chosen from more than 7,000 who have studied with Milton Keynes Council's Adult Continuing Education service this year, The learners will receive their awards from Councillor Euan Henderson, Liberal Democrat cabinet member responsible for lifelong learning, in a ceremony hosted by Three Counties Radio's Big George on Thursday 14 July at 7 pm, at Christ the Cornerstone Church in Central Milton Keynes. This special event, the first of its kind, has been organised by Adult Continuing Education staff, together with members of the Learners' Forum. "Adult learners deserve recognition for their successes. They often have to fit in regular attendance at a class alongside their jobs, families and all the other aspects of their lives. The winning learners have all overcome these barriers to succeed and have often gone beyond personal achievement to help out fellow classmates," said Councillor Henderson. The award-winners have taken part in courses such as Russian, GCSE English, calligraphy, literacy, numeracy, digital photography and film studies. Milton Keynes Adult Continuing Education offers a range of courses at different venues across the city to adults wishing to improve their skills.
