Liberal Democrat Transport Plan Targets School Safety12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 14th Jun 2005 High on Milton Keynes Council's list of priorities for transport is a rolling programme of traffic management measures outside Milton Keynes' schools. This is just one of the items outlined in the Traffic and Transport Programme for 2005/2006, recently agreed by the Liberal Democrat Cabinet, which details a series of measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion, updating cycling facilities and improving road safety outside schools and in residential areas. Other initiatives include: • A three-year programme of urban and rural traffic calming at a number of high priority sites • An assessment of road casualties in Milton Keynes followed by a programme of casualty reduction schemes • Improvements to a number of key junctions in the Bletchley area, including Watling Street • A rolling programme of parking reviews in older district centres, rural areas and new parish areas in Milton Keynes • New and extended cycling routes, provision of cycle parking and improvements to redway junctions • A package of road safety education, training and publicity initiatives. Councillor Graham Mabbutt, Liberal Democrat cabinet member for traffic and transport said: "Road safety figures high in the Liberal Democrat manifesto and we have plans that will help both rural and urban areas. Our top priority is to make it safer for children to get to school."
