Council Launches New Service Charters

10.16.54pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Jun 2005

Milton Keynes' Liberal Democrat Council has launched 11 new service charters.

These clearly set out what services the Council provides and the level of service people are entitled to receive in a bid to involve customers more in the shaping and delivery of council services.

The main purpose of the charters is to improve access to council services by providing information on what the council does, what standards customers can expect and how customers can seek a remedy if something goes wrong. The charters also encourage customers to provide feedback on how a service is delivered.

Commenting on the new charters, Cllr Isobel Wilson, Leader of the Council, said: "These charters demonstrate our commitment to listen to residents, in order to monitor and continually improve the quality of our services to the community. With these charters, we'll do everything we can to meet the expected standards and report back on our performance. In the coming months we'll be looking for improvements and publishing charters for other services."

The Council now has charters for the following services:

- Revenues and Benefits

- Adult Social Care

- Children's Services

- Trading Standards

- Parking

- Environmental Health

- Elections

- Electoral Registration

- Libraries

- Parks and Open Spaces (Landscaping)

- Housing

- Leisure.

Copies are available in council offices, housing offices, thecentre:mk and libraries, as well as in the service-specific areas of the Council's website (http://www.mkweb.co.uk/mkcouncil). For more information, please contact Rachel Greenham on MK 252696 or Rachel.Greenham@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
