One in Five Trains Still Delayed

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 10th Apr 2005

According to the Strategic Rail Authority, one in five trains ran late last autumn, and the Virgin Trains on the West Coast Main Line which serve Milton Keynes had the poorest performance of all with only 66.4% of trains on time.

Commenting on this Jane Carr, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for North East Milton Keynes, said: "Despite the long-awaited improvements on the West Coast Main Line, passengers to and from Milton Keynes are still getting a raw deal. Fares have risen above the level of inflation while services have declined."

"Conservative privatisation left the railways in a mess and under Labour the railway bureaucracy has increased five-fold. Liberal Democrats will cut the bureaucracy and ensure clear accountability for the running of the railways. This will save more money for investment and give passengers a better service."
