Milton Keynes Council Asks the Public for Help to Resolve the "Enigma Bridge" Question
8.19.04pm GMT Sun 14th Nov 2004
Local residents will have the chance to tell the Council what they think about plans for a new link road which could have far-reaching implications for Bletchley.
The Bletchley Link Scheme - already colloquially known as the Enigma Bridge - would connect Sherwood Drive to Granby roundabout via a new link road over the West Coast Mainline Railway.
The scheme is designed to:
-
take through traffic away from Saxon Street
-
allow easier pedestrian access to the town centre
-
reduce the impact of traffic in West Bletchley, particularly from the new developments in Bletchley Park
-
ease congestion at the Saxon Street/Watling Street junction near Tesco.
The link is an integral part of the long-term Bletchley regeneration scheme. Its aim is to help boost the redevelopment of the area around the Brunel Centre and along Queensway.
"We are really keen to hear what local people think about the Bletchley Link Scheme," said Liberal Democrat Councillor Graham Mabbutt, cabinet member with responsibility for transport. "All the comments we receive will be considered when we sit down to make amendments to the scheme. Please have a look at the plans and get in touch."
A public exhibition of the scheme can be seen at the Bletchley Development Board Office, Stanier Square, Bletchley. The display will remain there until January 7, the end of the public consultation period. A display has also been set up at the Frank Moran Centre, Melrose Avenue, West Bletchley. This will be open for viewing from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, until January 7. Copies of the plans are also available at the Civic Offices and at Bletchley Library in Westfield Road.
Comments should be made in writing to: Bletchley Link Scheme, The Arup Campus, Blythe Gate, Blythe Valley Park, Solihull, West Midlands, B90 8AE, and must be received by January 7.
