£5 Million Improvements at Leon School12.04.02pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 1st Oct 2004 A five million pound development means that Leon School now boasts stunning new facilities for use both by its students and by the local community. The Leon Learning Centre will be used by local sports and community groups, for staff training and for adult education classes. The building contains the only car maintenance teaching facility in a school in Milton Keynes as well as classrooms for learning plumbing, electrical and other trades. The makeover also includes new windows, fencing and heating systems to give Leon a bright new look. Councillor Sandra Clark, Liberal Democrat Cabinet Member for Schools said: "This is a very exciting development. These wonderful facilities are available for the Water Eaton, Bletchley and Milton Keynes communities. They will provide exciting opportunities for people of all ages." This project is the penultimate stage of a package of investment at the school, using cash supplied by the Department for Education and Science. The final stage - featuring new specialist teaching facilities - will be complete before Christmas when the old boiler blocks will be demolished. Further improvements will include a synthetic football pitch, improved drainage for the playing fields and remodelling the gym to make it fully accessible to disabled adults. There will also be a childcare facility for local 0-8 year-olds on the school site. There are plans for a 'tennis dome' to continue the development of Leon's outstanding sports' facilities.
